Picked up some fresh local baked goods at Koval's Bakery in Hinesburg to give my visit to Champlain Valley Union High School that little mark of distinction. At 9:00 I met Amy Wardwell and her 20 or so students as they worked on editing their final projects in the media lab. We had a good talk about their curriculum, the students' projects, facilities at CVU and what students were up to after graduation. We've got plans in place to visit again in the Fall and present BC Film and Media to Juniors and Seniors.
At the school, we’ve been working hard to create partnerships with local high schools and tech centers for opportunities in dual enrollment. Recently, we’ve begun working with South Burlington High School
On my way out, I stopped by their counseling office to leave film and media promotional materials with the guidance counselors. Met with their registrar Cyndi Knaepen and talked about BC, the new campus & our film and media programs.
Arrived back at BC to find grad student Webster Miller who had come by to give me a draft of his revised grad project proposal. We discussed his research, consulted on how to proceed, and caught up on his travels since the end of the semester. I told him about a promotional idea Coralee Holm, Director of Community and Alumni Affairs at Burlington College, and I spontaneously hatched the previous week. It involves taking photographs of the unused space we still have on campus to use in promotional materials. You can read more about the plans to develop our campus by clicking here.
Recent Grad Kyle Gish ‘13 was hanging around campus and was game to be photographed, so we quickly obtained permission from Coralee to shoot photos in the orphanage. Webster rounded up his gear, I rounded up Kyle, and Sarah Ward ’12, Development Associate at Burlington College, to shoot enough stills to do some mock ups this week. Hopefully you’ll be seeing some of this work soon! More later!
