In keeping with our progressive mission and purpose, the College encourages students to sharpen their thinking and learning skills and to gain wide knowledge in the liberal arts. We define the liberal arts expansively and include some alternative categories. Through their classes in the Core Curriculum, General Studies, and the majors, students explore creative expression, cultural awareness, historical consciousness, interdisciplinary study, media literacy, quantitative reasoning, responsible action, scientific thought, and social awareness. An Associate of Arts Degree in Film Studies is a 60-credit degree program in liberal arts with a concentration in cinema studies and film production. Beyond the requirements for the Associate’s Degree program, it allows students to take up to 30 credits in cinema studies and / or film production coursework. The liberal arts component of the concentration is addressed through 9 credits of required cinema studies courses (Introduction to Cinema Studies plus 6 credits of electives). Students can take an additional 21 credits in either cinema studies or film production, including workshops. Pre-requisites for higher-level courses must be met before those courses can be taken. The program is designed so it can be completed in four semesters of full time course-work.
