Bachelor's Degrees: Requirements

120 credit hours and approved assessment portfolio are required.

General Education Requirements
• 18 credits of Core Curriculum coursework (6 credits at the 300 level; 9 credits for students who transfer in more than 30 credits)
• Demonstration of proficiency in academic computing
• Vision and Revision (or assessment of writing sample)
• Research and Reflection
• Evidence of proficiency in the four fundamental learning skills (see Assessment):
     —Written Communication
     —Oral Communication
     —Critical Thinking
     —Research Methods
• 3 credits in each of the following areas of the liberal arts:
     —Creative Expression
     —Cultural Awareness
     —Historical Consciousness
     —Media Literacy
     —Quantitative Reasoning
     —Responsible Action
     —Scientific Thought
     —Social Awareness

Other Requirements
• Students successfully complete the mid-point portfolio outcomes assessment.
• Students continue to develop proficiency in the four fundamental learning skills—written communication, oral communication, critical thinking, and research methods—through identified coursework and the Degree Project.
• Students complete the last 30 credits of coursework at Burlington College over two or more semesters.
• Students maintain a completion ratio of 75%.

Major Requirements
• 36 or more credits in 200- to 400-level courses within the major.
• 24 credits must be at the 300 level.
• 3 credits in an internship.
• Successful completion of a Degree Project, including 6 credits in Degree Project Seminars.

Minor Requirements
Students may minor in a subject area of their choice.
• 18 or more credits of upper-level coursework in one subject.

Restrictions
• Completion in no more than 13.33 semesters of 12 credits each or equivalent part-time attendance.
• No more than 12 credits of low-pass accepted toward the degree.
• Total credits in workshops may not exceed 15.
• Total credits in Action Learning may not exceed 18.
• Total combined credits in guided independent study, tutorials, and independent study may not exceed 36.
