Independent Degree Program: FAQ

How do I design my degree plan?
The process of designing the degree plan is at the heart of your educational program in IDP. Discussions with your advisor acquaint you with the overall BA requirements and how they will be implemented into your learning modules. You then work with a faculty consultant to determine the development of your specific major. Your advisor and the faculty consultant will familiarize you with the college’s expectations for academic achievement while also assisting you in clarifying your goals for the further development of your education through your major.

What is the role of an advisor?
Your advisor will be involved with you throughout your enrollment in IDP. His or her primary role is to support you and your educational growth through on-going discussions throughout the term, as well as by helping you implement your degree plan each semester.

What is a Degree Project?
This is, in essence, your B.A. thesis. It emerges in response to your deep exploration of topics within your major, and is considered by the college to be the capstone of your undergraduate program. It encompasses all of the general education requirements of writing, research, and critical thinking as demonstrated through the work you have completed in your major. It is undertaken over your two last semesters in the IDP. The first term will be your research or initial project phase, and the last semester will entail creating your product for evaluation.
