Independent Degree Program: Requirements

Admission Requirements
Prospective students need to have completed the equivalent of one year of coursework (30 credits) at an accredited college in order to qualify for admission. Applicants should also be prepared to discuss their ability to undertake the challenge of an independent, self-directed course of study. Relevant life and work experience are taken into account during the admission process. IDP applicants are expected to demonstrate competence in expository writing before being admitted as writing is a heavy component of the program. All applicants must complete the full application process, which includes an interview with the director of the Independent Degree Program. Interviews are usually done by phone once the College has received the completed application.

Pre-admission Transcript Evaluation
The Burlington College Office of Admission will evaluate prospective student transcripts prior to the completion of the application. All official college transcripts should be sent directly from the student’s prior institution(s) to the Burlington College Office of Admission. The student’s field of interest (major) should be indicated when requesting a transcript evaluation. Evaluations will be mailed back to the student upon completion.
