Faculty Member Heidi Berkowitz
to present a paper at the
PCA's 2009 National Conference
Heidi Berkowitz, Faculty, Interdisciplinary Studies and Coordinator of The Writing Center, will be returning to the Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association's Annual National Conference to present her latest paper, Darkly Deciphering Dexter: The Successful Marriage of Horror and Detection in Showtime's Dexter Series. The conference will take place in New Orleans beginning April 8, through Saturday, April 11, 2008.
The Popular Culture Association was founded as a spin-off of the American Studies movement in the late 1960s by Professors Ray Browne (Bowling Green State University) and Russell Nye (Michigan State University). Today, the national conference has over 2,000 participants from national and international colleges and universities presenting on a range of topics including literature, film, creative writing, and history. The PCA/ACA also publishes the Journal of American Culture and the Journal of Popular Culture.
Heidi's work, like her courses, is interdisciplinary and brings together concepts, philosophy, and ideas from across the literature and film disciplines. She is most happy discussing the "strange and unusual" and writes academically and creatively on genre, speculative fiction, and the postmodern condition. Students can find Heidi Berkowitz in the college's writing center (Room 216) or screening films each Monday at 3:00pm in the Community Room.
