Student Jen Berger Wins Service Award
Student Jen Berger has been named Burlington College's 2006 winner of the Vermont Campus Compact/TD Banknorth Commitment to Service and Engagement Award. This award is given to one student per VCC member campus for both the breadth and depth of her/his community involvement.
Vermont Campus Compact (VCC), a statewide consortium of colleges and universities advancing the public good of higher education, each year honors students, faculty and staff, and community agencies with whom they partner, for their contributions and impact on Vermont communities through campus service, service-learning and/or civic engagement.
Berger has combined her academic studies art and theater at Burlington College with her passion around issues of gender and LGBTQ youth. She helped to create an art show for Transgender Day or Remembrance, help with script development on a play addressing issues facing LGBTQ youth, helped to develop and perform in a skit on domestic violence, and worked on a degree project involving murals. According to President Jane Sanders, “Jen is constantly asking critical questions, delving deeper, finding collaborative solutions, improving community and effecting positive change.”
All winners and finalists will be honored at the VCC Gala on Thursday, March 30, at the Vermont State House in Montpelier.
