Q: Who do I contact for help in an emergency?

Q: Does the College offer Mental Health Counseling?
A: The College contracts with Soulstice Psychotherapy to provide mental health services to students. The College will provide up to six counseling sessions for each student each year. Students may approach any advisor or the Dean of Students for a referral. The content of counseling sessions is confidential and may not be divulged to College personnel except as mandated by law.
Q: I need assistance with a drug or alcohol related problem. Where do I go?
Both Spectrum (527-7400) and Champlain Drug and Alcohol Services (1-800-639-1585) provide free and/or low-cost services.
Q: I had an IEP in high school. May I request an IEP from the College?
While there are no IEPs at the college level, students with documented learning disabilities may request, in writing, accommodations from the Dean of Students. The Dean of Students will discuss your needs with you, gather any necessary documentation, and forward that documentation to the Learning Specialist for evaluation. Once you have met the documentation requirements for accommodation, the Dean of Students will schedule a meeting with the Learning Specialist, yourself, and your advisor.
Q: Once I have received accommodations, must I reapply each semester?
A: Before each semester you must inform the Dean of Students, in writing, you wish accommodations for the upcoming semester. List the courses for which you wish accommodations as well as the specific accommodations you require. Submit your letter at least four weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. Once approved, it is your responsibility to meet with, and pass letters of accommodation to, your faculty each semester.
Q: I have informed my teacher I need extra supports or accommodations , but my teacher refused to grant them. What do I do?
A: Most faculty members at Burlington College are eager to assist students. However, if you do have a problem it is crucial you inform both your advisor and the Dean of Students.
Q: I suspect I may have a learning disability but have never been tested. Does the College offer testing?
A: Burlington College presently does not offer testing. However, the Dean of Students can help you to schedule low cost testing with the Learning Specialist.
Q: I need medical or dental care. How do I find a doctor or dentist?
A: The Community Health Center (864-6309) provides low cost medical and dental services. Check with your parents to see whether you have health insurance under their plan. If you need immediate care try the 24-hr. Fletcher Allen Walk-in Center in Colchester (847-1170).
Q: Can someone help me to plan my career, or find a graduate school or job?
A: Your advisor can help with your graduate school search. The Dean of Students can aid in your career or employment search. The Dean can also assist you in writing a winning resume.
Q: I want to create a club or develop an activity at the College. How do I do that?
A: The Dean of Students and the officers of the Student Association will be glad to work with you on your project.
