The first course in the film major's core production sequence in the film major is a hands-on course that introduces students to the art and craft of filmmaking. Working with 16mm film cameras and black and white film, students acquire basic knowledge of the film medium, film camera operations (loading, framing, focusing), light measurement and exposure control, manual film editing, and the fundamentals of film form. Within the course, students acquire the skills needed to conceptualize, shoot, and edit their own short films, experimenting with a variety of filmmaking forms and techniques.
