Rich Goodwin Appointed to the Board of Trustees
Burlington College announces the appointment of Rich Goodwin to the Board of Trustees. He will serve as chair of the Finance Committee.
Goodwin has vast experience in finance. His present position as assistant chief administrative officer for finance and management for the City of Burlington was preceded by several other such positions, including that of teacher.
“I’m passionate about higher education and I’ve missed it,” he said. “When I heard that there was a need at Burlington College, I felt that I could definitely make an impact there.”
Goodwin grew up in Beverly, MA, just north of Boston. A self-described “late-bloomer,” he earned associate and bachelor of science degrees, achieving his master’s in business administration at the New York Institute of Technology at the age of 45.
In Vermont, his professional accomplishments include positions as chief financial officer, treasurer for the scholarship fund and teacher at the New England Culinary Institute (NECI) in Montpelier. Leaving NECI for a new challenge, he became director of financial operations for Synergy Software Technologies in Essex Junction. When the company merged with Harmony Information Systems of Virginia, his position was discontinued, but not before he had created the financial architecture to streamline operations between the two locations.
Goodwin also taught food and beverage management, accounting and finance, and information technology at NECI and accounting at Berkshire Community College when he was vice-president of finance at Hilton. He feels that his contacts in the business community and his diverse knowledge of accrediting agencies, marketing and other aspects of business will help provide guidance for the growth of the College.
“I’ve looked all over the world, but I think Vermont is one of the best places in the world to live,” Goodwin said.”I’m looking forward to working with the school and the board doing whatever ‘s needed to bring Burlington College to the top.”
“Rich brings a great deal of finance and human resources experience to the Burlington College Board, including ten years with the New England Culinary Institute,” said Adam Dantzscher, chair of the Board of Trustees. “I'm looking forward to working with him in his role as Chair of the Finance Committee of the Board."
