Understanding Place and Space: A Beginner’s Course in Researching, Reading, and Writing about Gardening
Course # IAS 130
Instructor: Virginia Joczik
Credits: 1 credits at Burlington College
Location: Burlington College
Day and Time: Class meetings held in classrooms and in the garden, on Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00 – 3:00, for three consecutive weeks: August 31 & September 1, September 7 & 8, and September 14 & 15 at Burlington College.
This class is part of an initiative to develop ELL courses that go beyond language arts. With emphasis on the Burlington College Community Garden, the course activities will include researching, reading, and writing about Vermont gardens, as well as those gardens that the students left behind, but well remember. This is an acknowledgement of their own gardening cultures, and also an incentive for increasing their English language fluency.
