Course # GEN 171-1
Instructor: Abbey Baker
Date:  M,W 04:35p-06:00p
Location: RM 306

As the second part of our first-year writing sequence, this course reinforces basic writing skills and strategies while introducing students to more sophisticated essay forms that they can use in other courses. Early in the semester, students draft, revise, and edit short essays and then undertake a more substantial research-based paper. Students learn and practice academic research skills, develop constructive arguments in dialogue with source materials, articulate and deepen their ideas, and use sources correctly to support those ideas. This course partially satisfies the General Education writing requirement.
